James A. Kuzmich, Esq.
James A. Kuzmich, PLLC brings large firm experience and expertise to new or growing Arizona businesses. As a former founding partner of the Portland based law firm, Davis Dixon Kirby, LLP, Jim Kuzmich is accustomed to working with business owners. His experiences with a wide array of small to medium size businesses, provides existing and new business owners with the type of quality legal advice their businesses require.
As a person who has owned and operated different businesses and as an attorney, Jim’s goal is to provide clients with top-notch legal advice at an affordable price. Jim believes that small businesses and talented individuals should be entitled to the same level of legal advice typically only afforded to Fortune 500 companies and superstars. This concept shapes Jim’s billing philosophy…. Cost prohibitive hourly rates are not how services are rendered.
Since his entry into law, Jim has formed numerous legal entities in Arizona, Oregon and California. He has assisted start-up companies with legal issues related to opening a business including commercial leasing, intellectual property and general corporate requirements. In addition, Jim provides companies with continued legal support as their businesses grow, including assisting in name and corporate identity protection, on-going real estate needs, licensing, and general corporate support.
Jim worked for a number of years as in-house counsel for an Arizona based baseball agency. During his tenure, he represented professional baseball players assisting them in contract negotiations and endorsement opportunities. He also managed the agency’s day-to-day business operations. His experience and knowledge of endorsements and intellectual property has helped him provide numerous entertainers in both the industries of sports and entertainment. Currently, Jim provides representation for musical artists and professional sports figures with respect to all facets of their careers.
Jim’s collective experiences shape his approach in business and the practice of law. Jim received an undergraduate degree from Northern Arizona University before attending law school at the University of Oklahoma. He began his legal career practicing corporate law, real estate and intellectual property with Davis Wright Tremaine in Portland, Oregon. He left Davis Wright Tremaine with two other associates to form Davis Dixon Kirby as a founding partner. At Davis Dixon Kirby, he successfully built a corporate law practice focused primarily on the legal needs of small to medium sized businesses and real estate professionals. At the same time, Jim honed his skills in the area of artist representation.
In 2003, Jim returned to the Phoenix area and maintained a small law practice while working with the baseball agency. In 2008, Jim focused his efforts on developing a full-time law practice to provide legal solutions for a new business generation. He is licensed to practice law in Arizona and Oregon. Jim is also licensed to practice real estate law in the state of Arizona and is a Certified Agent with the Major League Baseball Players Association.
